Acute And Chronic Low Back Pain Treatment By Primary Care And By Chiropractic

Friday, October 28th, 2016

Chiropractic and spinal mobilization is becoming more and more accepted by the medical community in the treatment of acute and chronic low back pain. There is even less push-back from the biggest chiropractic detractors in the world when it comes to Chiropractic treatment for low back pain specifically.

Here’s one more example of why there is more and more acceptance among our medical counterparts for chiropractic low back pain treatment.

Why They Did It

The authors wanted to conduct a longer-term study to evaluate low back pain patients improved after 4 years of primary care or chiropractic care.

How They Did It

  • It was a prospective, nonrandomized, practice-based study.
  • 51 Chiropractic clinics & 60 chiropractors participated.
  • 14 general practice clinics and 111 general practitioners participated.
  • 2870 low back pain patients of acute and chronic duration.
  • Outcomes were performed using the visual analogue (VAS)scale and Oswestry Questionnaire.
  • Outcomes measured at the beginning to establish the baseline and then at 8 different time points up to the 48-month follow-up.

What They Found

Most of the improvements in the patients were seen at the 3 month point through the 1 year mark, while the more acute patients had relief at all measured time points.

There was a clinically significant advantage for chiropractic patients suffering from chronic pain in the short-term. At the 1 year mark, the acute and chronic patients all had better improvement.

Chiropractic also beat out primary care for low back pain with associated leg pain below the knee.

Wrap It Up

“Study findings were consistent with systematic reviews of the efficacy of spinal manipulation for pain and disability in acute and chronic LBP. Patient choice and interdisciplinary referral should be prime considerations by physicians, policymakers, and third-party payers in identifying health services for patients with LBP.”

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY!

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled. We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising the general, overall level of health! Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.

And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!! We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
