Are They Honest If They Say Chiropractors Are Dangerous?

Why They Did it

There have been case reports, accusations, and insinuations over the years claiming a significant causal relationship between cervical manipulation and stroke. That relationship has never been able to be shown in years of research. For the purposes of this paper, stroke will be referred to as cervical artery dissection or CAD. The goal here was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the data to further understand the subject.

How They Did It

  • Relevant search terms were used.
  • Each article was reviewed by authors of this paper.
  • The papers were graded independently.
  • Once accepted, the papers were compiled in a meta-analysis.
  • There were 253 articles used.
  • The information was then quantified by the GRADE method.

What They Found

The undertaking suggested a small association. However, the GRADE system suggests the quality of the evidence to be “very low.”

Wrap It Up

“Our analysis shows a small association between chiropractic neck manipulation and cervical artery dissection. This relationship may be explained by the high risk of bias and confounding in the available studies, and in particular by the known association of neck pain with CAD and with chiropractic manipulation. There is no convincing evidence to support a causal link between chiropractic manipulation and CAD. Belief in a causal link may have significant negative consequences such as numerous episodes of litigation.”

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY!

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled. We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising the general, overall level of health! Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!! We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
