Are You Spending Too Much On That Neck Pain?

Young woman with neck pain

I have posted several articles concerning the cost-effectiveness of Chiropractic treatment. This is much more of the same that you would expect. It just makes more financial sense to seek out a chiropractor for your musculoskeletal issues first.

This article is from 2016 so it is current and it is relevant.

Why They Did It

The authors on the study wanted to compare how services were used and charged in the healthcare field by Doctors of chiropractic and medical doctors.

How They Did It

  • They used data from 2000 to 2009 from North Carolina State Health Plan for Teachers and State Employees (NCSHP).
  • They used diagnostic codes for uncomplicated neck pain as well as complicated neck pain period.

What They Found

  • Single providers that did not refer their patients to others racked up the least in charges on average for both uncomplicated neck pain as well as complicated pain.
  • When care did not include referrals, medical doctor care with physical therapy was generally less expensive than medical care chiropractic care combined.
  • But, Wind treatment protocols, referral providers, medical doctor care, and physical therapist care was more expensive on the average than medical care combined with chiropractic care for either condition.
  • Charges for chiropractic patients in the middle quintiles of risk had to lower bills with or without medical care or referral care to other providers.

Wrap it up

Chiropractic care alone OR chiropractic care in combination with medical care had significantly fewer charges for uncomplicated neck pain or complicated neck pain when compared to the medical care with or without physical therapy care.

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY!

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled. We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising their general, overall level of health! Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.
