Chiropractic Treatment For Headaches: Does It Cost More….or Less?

Young woman with a headache

Here’s a quick one for our blog this week. It’s so nice to continually see new and fresh research coming out every month and every year about chiropractic care. That means that the traditional medical detractors that make their living bashing chiropractors make less and less sense every month of every year.

Eventually, they just start to look like grumpy old men yelling, “Get off my lawn ya worthless punks!” That thought just puts me in the best mood.

This study was a data analysis done in North Carolina over a span from 2000 to 2009.

Why They Did It

The authors were wanting to compare how treatment was used and what costs were charged for the treatment of headaches for Chiropractors (DC), Medical Doctors (MD), and Physical Therapists (PT).

How They Did It

  • The authors used a retrospective analysis of claims made in North Carolina from 2000 to 2009
  • The claims analyzed were from the North Carolina State Health Plan for Teachers and State Employees.

What They Found

  • The majority of HEADACHE patients found in the study were from the MD-only or the MD-plus-referral category.
  • Chiropractic patients in the study made up less than 10% of the patients.
  • Patients that had single-provider types with zero referrals had the fewest charges for headaches on average.
  • If you take out the cse that had referrals to other practitioners, MD + DC care was less expensive than MD + PT care was.

Wrap It Up

  • Money spent on treatments for headaches went up between 2000 and 2009 overall.
  • Medical care and Chiropractic care (alone or in combination) were both the least expensive for headache treatment.

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY!

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled. We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising your general, overall level of health! Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.

And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!! We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
