It’s a Good Thing When Even Your “Enemies” Like You!

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014

In 2013, the American Medical Association (AMA) actually recommended chiropractic care before resorting to surgery. Yes, “enemies” in the title of this blog post refers to the medical associations, both state and national. However, I hope that is not misconstrued to imply that medical doctors are our enemies.

They are not.

In fact, most medical doctors don’t have one clue what we even do. And that’s OK. That’s job security in my mind. I don’t want to know how to perform a surgical vertebral fusion and I don’t want them to know how to manipulate the spine. We’re all happy in our own corners of healthcare.

It’s the medical associations that are the chiropractic professions enemies. They try to legislate us under them so that they control their competition. Sort of like a monopoly. For over 100 years now, chiropractors have been successful in not allowing this to happen. We are separate and distinct from the medical profession and both sides should embrace the diversity.

With that being said, in an article written to raise awareness on back pain, JAMA, or the Journal of the American Medical Association said that, prior to any invasive surgeries, one should seek the services of a chiropractor!

What???? Yes, they said it!

They recognize that surgery is rarely the answer to back pain and should be the last resort: something chiropractors have said for generations now.

You can read it for yourself on the JAMA webpage called “Low Back Pain”. It also talks about:

  • Prevention of lower back pain
  • Options
  • Diagnosis
  • Causation
  • Symptoms

It has been our contention for some time now that chiropractic can reduce the cost of healthcare significantly. This is another step in the realization of that notion.

Till next time…..
