Lost Time From Work Drastically Reduced By Chiropractic When Compared To Medical Treatment

Wednesday, November 11th, 2015

In 1975, Richard C. Wolf, M.D., independently confirmed a 2 to 1 effectiveness ratio in a study entitled “A retrospective study of 629 workmen’s compensation cases in California”:

The significant differences between the two groups appear to be as follows:

  1. Average lost time per employee — 32 days in the medically-treated group, 15.6 days in the chiropractor-treated group.
  2. Employees reporting no lost time — 21% in the medically-treated group, 47.9% in the chiropractor-treated group.
  3. Employees reporting lost time in excess of 60 days — 13.2% in the medically-treated group, 6.7% in the chiropractor-treated group.
  4. Employees reporting complete recovery — 34.8% in the medically-treated group, 51% in the chiropractor-treated group.

That is a 2 : 1 effectiveness. Meaning TWICE as effective in treating injuries and getting people back to work quicker. Not only in treating the injury but twice as effective in preventing re-injury.

Again, chiropractors only see 8-10% of the population currently. We need people to see these research blogs. We need them to understand that the right chiropractor can make all of the difference in the world for them. We need them to understand that their uncle’s, brother’s, hairstylist was incorrect when she said that chiropractors didn’t know what they were talking about. That goes for any medical doctor or other healthcare professional that may have told you or a family member or friend not to go to a chiropractor.

That kind of rhetoric is irresponsible and incorrect and is normally not based on any real knowledge of the subject at all.

We need you to share these blogs on your Facebook pages and on Twitter so that we can begin to change people’s thought process concerning chiropractic. At least, we may spark some discussion on the matter.

This profession can make a difference. It can bring down personal and national healthcare costs and it can do it in a natural, conservative, non-invasive way. It is my opinion that many (if not most) neuromusculoskeletal conditions should BEGIN at the chiropractor rather than end at the chiropractor.

I say that because you cannot imagine how many “at the end of my rope” stories we see on a regular basis. In many cases, we are our patients’ last hope. They have been through everything else (i.e., pain meds, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxers, injections, etc.) and we are the only thing standing between them and hopelessness (and/or surgery).

We should be the BEGINNING of the journey and, as a responsible chiropractor would do, we would be able to treat or be knowledgable enough to know when to refer. Not all chiropractors are created equal. You must be sure you are going to a chiropractor that is qualified to tell you what he/she feels is wrong and then give good responsible recommendations from that point. That’s key.

But, considering the chiropractor is well-versed in diagnosing, chiropractic should be the entry point for neuromusculoskeletal conditions for the most part.

Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think. And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!!
