Research: Are You At A Higher Risk For Whiplash?

Monday, November 9th, 2015

We have seen A LOT of patients over the years that were involved in car wrecks. We see all sorts of wrecks. From side impact, Front impact, rear impact, to wrecks that spin and rollover. We have the ability and experience in the personal injury arena to accurately define, report, and manage a personal injury case.

In fact, I have achieved the Advanced Cetification in Whiplash Biomechanics & Traumatology through his Spine Research Institute of San Diego. What an incredible course.

Beyond that, I have extensive experience with Colossus and have also gone through the Personal Injury Institute with Dr. Matt DeGaetano in Flower Mound, TX. All of that being said to demonstrate a level of understanding in the personal injury arena that many may not have.

That brings me to this weeks blog topic. This particular research paper was done to find out what particular risk factors put different people at a higher or lower risk of injury in regards to whiplash.

Why They Did It

To find out what reasons or risk factors exist for some people to have more severe, or less severe, injuries following a motor vehicle crash.

How They Did It

  • The study was of occupants in cars that were covered by insurance.
  • The insurance company was one of the largest in Sweden.
  • It was done over the course of one year.
  • The study was made up of people that were in crashes and in which at least one person was injured.

What They Found

  • Rear-impact crashes had the highest risk of whiplash injury as compared to crashes with side impacts.
  • Drivers tended to have a higher incidence of whiplash.
  • Females had a higher incidence of whiplash than males did.
  • And, the older you are, the worse the effects. Obviously.

Wrap Up

There are most certainly different things that can put one at greater risk of injury as a result of a whiplash. Although, there are many factors that can increase or decrease injury risk and/or severity, most importantly, is whether or not the impact was a rear impact.

Be sure to call us if you think we can help you with your injury following a traumatic incident. We have years of experience, not only in the physical side of things but also in the paper/reporting/management side of the case. We deal, or have dealt, with most injury attorneys in the Panhandle and Amarillo area and several across the state. Also, in many cases, there is little to no money required of the patient themselves.

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled. We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising your general, overall level of health!

We have seen time and time again the amazing effectiveness of chiropractic for issues such as neck out of alignment, hips out of alignment, back alignment, lower back alignment hip out of alignment, back out of alignment, etc… We have just about seen it all.

Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.

And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!! We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
