Research: Can A Combined Medical AND Chiropractic Approach Work?

Combined Chiropractic and Medical Approach

There has been more and more research surfacing lately regarding an INTEGRATED practice offering a COMBINED treatment protocol for musculoskeletal complaints.

Meaning, if your neck hurts, rather than go to the traditional medical doctor and get pain killers, muscle relaxers, and/or anti-inflammatories that have little to no effect, you would go to a chiropractor in addition to the traditional medical treatment regimen which tends to be minimal in musculoskeletal complaints.

WHY THEY DID IT

This research from 2011 explored a hospital-based standardized spine care pathway to treatment including the results of the multidisciplinary protocol.

HOW THEY DID IT

  • They used 518 patients
  • They developed a standard Spine Care Pathway treatment protocol
  • The National Center for Quality Assurance (NCQA) back pain recognition program (BPRP) was used as the framework for the Spine Care Pathway
  • Patients were categorized based several factors.
  • 83% of the patients qualified for and underwent chiropractic care and/or physical therapist care.

WHAT DID THEY FIND?

  • Those that also attended treatment with a Doctor of Chiropractic attended about 5.2 visits at a cost of about $302.
  • On intake, the pain rating score was 6.2 out of 10.
  • On exit, the pain rating was 1.9 out of 10.
  • Of the patients also attending chiropractic treatment, 95% of them rated their care as EXCELLENT.

WRAP UP

The authors felt that a combined, integrated treatment protocol showed to be more inexpensive overall with higher patient satisfaction upon completion.

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled. We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising your general, overall level of health!

We have seen time and time again the amazing effectiveness of chiropractic for issues such as neck out of alignment, hips out of alignment, back alignment, lower back alignment hip out of alignment, back out of alignment, etc… We have just about seen it all.

Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.

And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!! We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
