Research: How Does Spinal Manipulation Rate For Neck Pain?

Tuesday, June 17th, 2014

Here is information from the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT) dated March/April 2007.

The review’s main author was Howard Vernon, DC, PhD. He was quoted in the article as saying, “The results of the literature review confirm the common clinical experience of doctors of chiropractic: Neck manipulation is beneficial for patients with certain forms of chronic neck pain.”

Dr. Vernon and the other authors of this extensive review combed through nine published trials. These had to qualify as high-quality trials or they were thrown out.

How They Did It:
1. No acute neck pain
2. No neck pain with associated arm pain
3. No neck pain due to whiplash
4. The neck pain had to be chronic and present a minimum of eight weeks

1. None stayed the same.
2. ALL groups had positive changes 12 weeks after their treatment began
3. None reported and adverse effects.
4. Mobilization therapy was beneficial in improving patients’ pain levels
5. Many had full recovery after 6-7 weeks
6. The evidence did not show massage therapy to be as effective

Just another reason to call your local chiropractor and make an appointment.

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic . Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled.  We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising your general, overall level of health!

Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.
