Research: Manual Therapy More Effective, Less Expensive

Wednesday, November 11th, 2015

This research goes a LONG WAY towards showing the cost-effectiveness and the overall effectiveness of manual therapy/spinal mobilization when compared to traditional medical treatment or physiotherapy/physical therapy alone.

There is research out there that also shows extreme effectiveness through a combined, integrated approach in many musculoskeletal conditions.

With all of that being said, let’s get on to the research!

WHY THEY DID IT

The authors wanted to evaluate, contrast, and compare effectiveness of manual therapy to physiotherapy/physical therapy and to care by a general medical practitioner in regards to neck pain specifically.

HOW THEY DID IT

–   This was an economic evaluation in addition to a randomized controlled trial.
–   183 Participants with neck pain for 2 weeks in duration
–   42 General medical practitioners
–   The patients were randomly treated with manual therapy/spinal mobilization, physiotherapy/physical therapy, or general practitioner protocols
–   Clinical results were based on perceived recovery, intensity of pain, functional disability, and quality of life changes.
–   Cost efficiency was determined by the patients keeping a log of costs for one year.

WHAT THEY FOUND

Manual therapy/spinal mobilization shown to be faster in regards to improvement than BOTH physiotherapy/physical therapy and general practitioner protocols for up to 26 weeks.

The cost of manual therapy/spinal mobilization therapy were roughly 1/3 the cost of physiotherapy/physical therapy and general practitioner protocols.

WRAP UP

Manual therapy/spinal mobilization was proven through research to be significantly more effective and cost less in the treatment of neck pain when compared to physiotherapy/physical therapy and general practitioners.

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled. We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising your general, overall level of health!

We have seen time and time again the amazing effectiveness of chiropractic for issues such as neck out of alignment, hips out of alignment, back alignment, lower back alignment hip out of alignment, back out of alignment, etc… We have just about seen it all.

Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.

And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!! We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
