Research Shows Chiropractic To Be Twice As Effective Says M.D.

Monday, March 31st, 2014

I know 1972 may sound like ancient history now to some but, for reference, I was born in 1972 and I happen to think it wasn’t all that long ago. At all….

Anyway, in 1972 a guy names Rolland A. Martin, MD, was the director of Oregon’s Workmen’s Compensation Program. He did some meaningful research back then comparing other treatments with chiropractic treatment within the context of the Worker’s Comp. System.

It was called, “A Retrospective Study of Comparable Workmen’s Industrial Injuries in Oregon.”

Here’s what he found:

“Examining the forms of conservative therapy the majority received, it is interesting to note the results of those treated by chiropractic physicians. A total of twenty-nine claimants were treated by no other physician than a chiropractor. 82% of those workmen resumed work after one week of time loss. Their claims were closed without a disability award. Examining claims treated by the Medical Doctor, in which the diagnosis seems comparable to the type of injury suffered by the workmen treated by the Chiropractor, 41% of these workmen resumed work after one week of time loss.”

Lets’ boil that down to make complete sense really quickly here.

Basically, they took the same sort of injured worker with the same sort of injury. They tracked the worker’s treatments. Half went to the medical doctor and half went to the chiropractor.

Results:
Chiropractor = 82% resumed work after one week of time loss.
Medical Doctor = 41% resumed work after one week of time loss.

The Chiropractic Treatment was twice as effective in this study!

I have been sharing research blogs like this with you all for some time now. It’s kind of like an attorney building a case. The more evidence he brings into the trial, the more solid case he has.

Will there ever come a time when chiropractors start seeing more than the normal nationwide average of 8-11% of the population? What has to finally change before people at large “get it?”

We can give people hope, we can save them time, we can save them money in the long run, and we can do it without medication or invasive means, conservatively.

HOW IS CHIROPRACTIC NOT THE NORM IN MUSCULOSKELETAL CONDITIONS RATHER THAN THE EXCEPTION? HOW IS IT THAT, HAVING THE EXACT SAME BASIC SCIENCE COURSES AND EDUCATION AS FOUND IN MEDICAL SCHOOLS, I CAN BE CALLED A QUACK BY ANYONE, ANYWHERE? HOW IS IT, WITH THE MOUNTAINS OF FAVORABLE RESEARCH PERFORMED BY THE MEDICAL PROFESSION ITSELF, THAT WE ARE STILL HAVING THIS CONVERSATION?

If you’re interested in the answers, Google a landmark case called Wilk, et. al. vs. AMA, et. al. and you’ll get a really solid picture of why chiropractic is still the exception rather than the rule.

In the mean time, Chiropractors, keep up the good work. You are making a difference every day.

Patients, keep telling your friends and family about chiropractic. We need your help to get to the tipping point where EVERYONE starts utilizing this amazing profession. Nobody else is going to tell them.
