Research: Spinal Manipulation Crushes Diclofenac in Low Back Pain Double Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial!

Friday, September 18th, 2015

Many chiropractic detractors point to the need for Randomized Controlled Trials in the chiropractic literature. A randomized controlled trial is considered the “gold standard” in the research community.

I have one even better to share with you this week. It is a DOUBLE BLINDED randomized placebo-controlled trial. Guess what they found?

Why They Did It
The authors were interested in effectiveness of spinal manipulation (in the chiropractic style) vs. the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug called Diclofenac vs. a simple placebo.

How They Did It

  • They had 101 patients with low back pain less the 48 hours old.
  • They used several very strict rules to include, or exclude, the patients.
  • The patients were randomized into three groups: 1) Spinal manipulation and placebo/diclofenac 2) Fake manipulation and diclofenac, 3) fake manipulation and placebo-diclofenac.
  • Outcomes were registered by a second (and blinded) investigator to minimize bias.
  • The outcomes were self-reported and assessed physical disability, function, off-work time, and medication taken to alleviate symptoms.
  • The outcomes were taken 12 weeks afterward.

What They Found

  • 37 Patients had chiropractic adjustments
  • 38 received Diclofenac
  • 25 had no active treatment
  • The intervention groups were significantly superior to the control group

Wrap It Up

  • The manipulation group was significantly better than the Diclofenac group.
  • No adverse effects or harms were registered.
  • Spinal manipulation was clinically superior to placebo and significantly better than Diclofenac.

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled.  We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising your general, overall level of health!

We have seen time and time again the amazing effectiveness of chiropractic for issues such as neck out of alignment, hips out of alignment, back alignment, lower back alignment hip out of alignment, back out of alignment, etc… We have just about seen it all.

Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.

And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!!   We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
