Chiropractic is safe and effective for relieving back pain

In discussions about cervical manipulations and its likelihood (or unlikelihood) of causing a stroke, we run into several falsehoods. These falsehoods are mostly propagated by those in the medical field. However, research firmly backs Chiropractic’s record of safety and effectiveness.

The following paper is one of many examples.

Why They Did It

The authors of this paper wanted to explore the potential for injury or damage from a chiropractic adjustment of the C1 on C2 (atlanto-axial) segment, also known as a high velocity/low amplitude (HVLA) thrust. They noticed the literature is completely lacking in this aspect they and hoped to fill the gaps in knowledge. Knowing the exact mechanisms and forces involved helps with further understanding of the treatment.

How They Did It

  • The authors employed an ultrasound motion tracking mechanism called the Zebris CMS20.
  • 20 human subjects were accepted for use in the study.
  • The placement and interaction of C1 on C2 was analyzed with three HVLA movements into rotation.

What They Found

  • The mean norm of displacement during the movement was 0.5mm.
  • The maximum displacement during the movements was 6mm.
  • Displacement factors were not reproducible.

Wrap It Up

The authors of this paper concluded the following, “Displacement during the execution of HVLA thrust is unintentional, unpredictable and not reproducible. On the other hand and in accordance with other studies, the displacement induced with the present technique seems not to be able to endanger vital structure on the Spinal Cord and the Vertebral Artery.”

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY!

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled. We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising the general, overall level of health!

Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!! We cannot make a difference without your help.
