Why They Did It

The authors felt that sacroiliac joints (SIJ) could potentially be a source of sciatica. The goal of the study was to test whether there was a successful treatment regimen for a complaint of this sort.

How They Did It

  • 51 patients with SIJ related leg pain were accepted into the study.
  • The study was a single-blinded randomized trial.
  • Three treatment protocols were assessed in this study:
    • Physical Therapy/Physiotherapy
    • Chiropractic/Manual Therapy
    • Intra-articular corticosteroid injections
  • The subjects were evaluated for improvement at the 6 week mark and at the 12 week mark.

What They Found

  • Physical Therapy/Physiotherapy had a 20% success rate.
  • Intra-articular corticosteroid injections had a 50% success rate.
  • Chiropractic/Manual Therapy had a 72% success rate.

Wrap It Up

“…manual therapy appeared to be the choice of treatment for patients with SIJ-related leg pain. A second choice of treatment to be considered is an intra-articular injection.”

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY!

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled. We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising the general, overall level of health! Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!! We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
