Why Have 40 Million Americans Tried Chiropractic? Part 7 – Cost Effectiveness

Friday, February 6th, 2015
Continuing in this series, Part 7 refers to the widely proven cost-effectiveness of chiropractic care when compared to traditional medical treatment. I have several research-based blogs already on this topic but sometimes you can never shout quite loud enough.

Here is a thought that occurred to me today; if one points to research showing no connection between vaccines and autism…..if that is what they base their opinion of vaccines on….then they MUST pay attention to and respect the overwhelming mountain of research in support of every facet of the Chiropractic profession. You can’t pick and choose. Solid research is solid research and evidence is evidence. Just a thought.

Again, this series is based on information provided to me personally by Mr. George McAndrews. Mr. McAndrews was the lead counsel in the Wilk vs. AMA case and won that case with his considerable skill but also these great resources that I will continue sharing with you throughout this series. These blog topics and research findings are all part of a wonderful article in Dynamic Chiropractic that Mr. McAndrews wrote. You can read that article here.

1993 – Study ont he cost-effectiveness of chiropractic care for low back pain
“There is an overwhelming body of evidence indicating that chiropractic management of the low-back pain is more cost-effective than medical management. We reviewed numerous studies that range from very persuasive to convincing in support of this conclusion. The lack of any convincing argument or evidence to the contrary must be noted and is significant to us in forming our conclusions and recommendations. The evidence includes studies showing lower chiropractic costs for the same diagnosis and episodic need for care.”

2004 – Study comparing health costs for adults with or without chiropractic insurance benefits
“Health plan members with chiropractic insurance benefits had lower annual total health care costs ($1,463 vs. $1,671 per year) compared with those without insurance coverage for chiropractic care.
People with back pain who had chiropractic insurance benefits also had fewer x-rays, fewer MRI scans, less back surgery, and fewer hospitalizations.

2010 – Study comparing health insurance costs for back pain managed by chiropractors
A Blue Cross Blue Shield health plan found that total costs for low back pain were almost 27% less when patients went to a chiropractor first ($756) than if they saw a medical physician first $1037).
Having chiropractors manage low back pain first could save that health plan $2.3 million a year.

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled.  We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising your general, overall level of health!

Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.

And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!!   We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
