Why Have Over 40 Million Americans Tried Chiropractic? – Part Four

Last week’s blog had to do with the category Scientific Research Recommends Chiropractic Spinal Manipulation Low Back Pain. It focused on research abstracts having to do with the low back specifically. This week will be under the same category but will focus specifically on the neck region. Again, this series is based on information provided to me personally by Mr. George McAndrews. Mr. McAndrews was the lead counsel in the Wilk vs. AMA case and won that case with his considerable skill but also these great resources that I will continue sharing with you throughout this series. These blog topics and research findings are all part of a wonderful article in Dynamic Chiropractic that Mr. McAndrews wrote. You can read that article at the following link: http://www.dynamicchiropractic.com/mpacms/dc/article.php?id=56938

2008 – Bone and Joint Decade Task Force on Neck Pain and Its Associated Disorders
A multidisciplinary group of expert clinicians and researchers that included physicians, surgeons, physical therapists, and chiropractors, and that was sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO), made the following recommendations about the treatment of neck pain.

“Our best evidence synthesis suggests that therapies involving manual therapy and exercise are more effective than alternative strategies for patients with neck pain; this was also true of therapies which include educational interventions addressing self-efficacy.”
Hurwitz EL, Carragee EJ, van der Velde G, Carroll LJ, Nordin M, Guzman J, et al. Treatment of neck pain: noninvasive interventions: results of the Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010 Task Force on Neck Pain and Its Associated Disorders, Spine 2008;33(4 Suppl):S123-S152.

2012 – Randomized controlled trial of treatments for neck pain
A study funded by the National Institues of Health compared 3 different treatments for neck pain spinal manipulation from a chiropractor, anti-inflammatory or pain medication prescribed by a medical physician, or cdvice to perform neck exercises at home.

After 12 weeks, 57% of patients treated by chiropractors saw their pain decrease by more than 75%, compared to only 33% for patients taking medications, and 48% for patients doing home exercises. After 1 year, 82% of patients treated by chiropractors said that their pain had improved by at least 50%, compared to only 69% for patients taking medications, and 70% for patients doing home exercises.

Researchers concluded: “For participants with acute and subacute neck pain, SMT was more effective than medication in both the short and long term.”

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled.  We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising your general, overall level of health!

Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.

And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!!   We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
