Why You Should Be Talking About Chiropractic Treatment For Headaches

Adding to the mountain of research and evidence supporting Chiropractic’s effectiveness in treating headaches and migraines, there’s this paper from 2001.

Why They Did It

With the prevalence of chronic headaches and migraines, the search has been ongoing for years to find effective treatments. It’s becoming more and more common to seek out complementary and alternative treatments for these conditions rather than the traditional medical route. The authors wanted to try to assess the effectiveness of spinal manipulative therapy for the conditions using randomized clinical trials.

How They Did It

  • The authors included Randomized Clinical Trials on chronic headaches when they included spinal manipulative treatment vs. traditional treatment vs. placebo.
  • They had to include 1 patient-rated outcome measure (disability, pain, daily quality of life).
  • The studies were collected via databases such as MELINE and EMBASE.

What They Found

  • They used 9 trials.
  • 683 patients were accepted into the review.
  • Moderate evidence exists spinal manipulative treatment is effective short term and is equally effective to amitriptyline for treatment of headaches.
  • Moderate evidence that Chiropractic is more effective than massage for headache treatment.

Wrap It Up

Chiropractic showed a higher effectiveness, than massage and equal effect to that of commonly used prescription medication in the treatment of headaches and migraines.

Just another reason to call a chiropractor TODAY!

Research and clinical experience shows that, in about 80%-90% of headaches, neck, and back pain, in comparison to the traditional medical model, patients get good or excellent results with Chiropractic. Chiropractic care is safe, more cost-effective, it decreases your chances of having surgery, and it reduces your chances of becoming disabled. We do this conservatively and non-surgically. In addition, we can do it with minimal time requirements and minimal hassle on the part of the patient. And, if the patient develops a “preventative” mindset going forward from initial recovery, we can likely keep it that way while raising your general, overall level of health! Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think.

And….SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!! We cannot make a difference without your help.

Till next time……
